Neighboring Green Network and Landscape Metrics Explain Biodiversity within Small Urban Green Areas—A Case Study on Birds

چکیده
Cities’ green areas are fragmented patches and often confined to smaller sizes than the higher built-up proportions. Such small-sized can be essential components of infrastructure compensate for biodiversity loss. As a proxy biodiversity, we studied birds in nine small area locations Freiburg eight Regensburg Germany. We investigated neighboring networks (distance nearest water body another area) landscape metrics (patch abundance habitat heterogeneity at 1 km radius) that might benefit explain bird richness composition areas. found variations observed species surveyed were better explained solely by Regensburg. In general, it indicates could biodiverse if its spatial distribution considers nearby other areas, allowing similar neighborhood.

Local Management and Landscape Effects on Diversity of Bees, Wasps and Birds in Urban Green Areas
Today almost all ecosystems on Earth are directly or indirectly influenced by human activity. Most species occur in ecosystems that are managed by humans and only a small fraction of biodiversity exists in protected areas. Therefore, human dominated areas must also be considered for conservation of biodiversity. I have studied the effect of urbanization and green area management on bumble bees,...
متن کاملEffect of Landscape Pattern on Insect Species Density within Urban Green Spaces in Beijing, China
Urban green space is an important refuge of biodiversity in urban areas. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the relationship between the landscape pattern of green spaces and biodiversity to mitigate the negative effects of urbanization. In this study, we collected insects from 45 green patches in Beijing during July 2012 using suction sampling. The green patches were dominated by managed l...
متن کاملWildflower green roofs for urban landscaping, ecological sustainability and biodiversity
The aim of this trial was to test a wildflower roof in order to show how a country landscape fits in an urban environment. The bio-agronomic performance, the biodiversity dynamics during the two-years experiment, and the pollinating fauna, were analysed. Each plant group was able to efficiently colonize the surface of the roof though in different periods and with various modalities. Thermal ins...
متن کاملGreen Links and Urban Biodiversity—an Experiment in Connectivity
Many cities are located on estuaries, floodplains or other biologically productive and unique habitats. Natural ecosystems are fragmented in urban areas and are increasingly isolated as cities densify to accommodate population growth. Greenways are one approach to maintain natural connections, thereby preserving larger breeding populations of plants and animals and more robust food webs. The Gr...
متن کاملGreen Streets: Urban Green and Birth Outcomes
Recent scholarship points to a protective association between green space and birth outcomes as well a positive relationship between blue space and wellbeing. We add to this body of literature by exploring the relationship between expectant mothers' exposure to green and blue spaces and adverse birth outcomes in New York City. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), the NYC Street Tr...
